Title: On Failure Modeling
Abstract: In this correspondence, we shall address the reliability problems for components of a system and/or for the whole system in the presence of a changing environment, a situation typically encountered in flexible manufacturing. We shall model failure times and develop failure distributions using random processes to describe the uncertainty due to fluctuating conditions. For such systems we shall present a general formula for the survival probability (reliability function) in terms of the given data. So far, such a formula has been known only for some very special cases.
